In a ‘big’ blow to the opposition ‘Mahagathbandhan’ parties or ‘grand alliances’ after the Election Commission on Wednesday rejected their demand outright. On Wednesday, the members of the ‘grand alliances’ had a marathon meeting at the Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi. They were demanding 100% verification of the entire Assembly segment if a mismatch is found during the random check.
The opposition parties requested EC to allow to tally of Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips in five polling booths in each Assembly segment with the electronic voting machines (EVMs) before the counting of votes begin. The EC rejected their demand.
On Tuesday, a delegation comprising of 22 representatives from ‘Mahagathbandhan’ had called upon the EC to place their demand.
Later in day, Congress President Rahul Gandhi who is also an ally of the ‘grand alliance’ broke his silence over the ‘Exit Poll’ issue. He asked his partymen to be observant and not to allow the BJP to win the polls by tampering the EVMs. RaGa also expressed solidarity with his partymen over the numbers Congress got in the Exit Polls and requested them not to get disheartened.
