Finally, West Bengal state education minister Partha Chatterjee has promised that the textbook content of the standard VIII that mentions freedom fighter Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki as revolutionary terrorists. The minister has accepted that it was a mistake and the content will be revamped with required changes.
The entire incident had created embarrassment for the Trinamool government. Many like-minded people had called the mistake as a big blunder and a shame for the state.
The state government has already constituted a high-level panel to look into the content headed Trinamool Congress legislator Jiban Mukhopadhyay who is a retired college teacher. The opposition has taken a pick at the government. It has blamed the government of doing a superfluous work and not taking the initiative to review the content. It also expressed anguish as what will the future generation learn as they will read and learn whatever has been written in their textbook.
Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki have been referred to as part of ‘revolutionary terrorism’ in the English textbook revolutionary under the chapter ‘Our Past,Our Heritage’ on page 112 in the English textbook.
