BanglaHunt: The festival of Eid-Ul-Fitr is being celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour. Eid-Ul-Fitr is celebrated at the end of Ramadan which takes place in the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
Special Namaz was held across Mosques where faithful offered prayers. Special prayers were also held at the iconic Jama Masjid in Delhi where the Shahi Imam Syeed Bukhari performed the rituals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind took to twitter to greet people on Eid. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also twitted to wish on Eid.
Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated on Wednesday today in major parts of the world where the moon was viewed on Tuesday evening as per tradition. However, in cpuntries the full-moon was not viewed like Bangladesh. Eid will be celebrated on Thursday in Bangladesh. While in Saudi Arabia (UAE), the full-moon was viewed on Monday. Eid was celebrated there on Tuesday.
Eid-ul-Fitr is also known as ‘Mithi Eid’. Shops selling sweets and other eatable items have been decked up. Sewaiyan or (Vermicelli) has special significance in Eid-Ul-Fitr.
Since morning faithfuls dressed in their festive best thronged various Mosques to offer the special Namaz. As per the tradition, children were given Idi.
It is believed that the Quran’s first verse was revealed during the last 10 nights of this month. The exact date of Eid depends on the lunar cycle.
