This is why India is called secular. On one hand when we have politicians fighting over the existence of Ram and Rahim, on the other, we also have people like Gangola, his family who have kept the spirit and dignity of ‘secularism’ high. Otherwise the word ‘secularism’ has become restricted to course materials and political speeches.

The family of Anant Gangola in Ranikhet, is a perfect example of secularism. The family have been observing the ‘Alvida Jumma’ or last Jumma prayers before the Eid and end of Ramzan month on the last Friday. According to Gangola, there is no happiness as celebrating the festivals of all religions. He said, it not only helps us to become good human being but also infuse the love and respect for other religions. His 19-years old son Ambar and 17-years old daughter Avani also follow the rituals.

However, Gangola who is associate director at the Azim Premji University, Bengaluru observes Ramzan with solemn prayers as he had lost his dear friend Javed Sultan during Ramzan months.
during one of the Ramzan months he had lost his close friend Javed Sultan.

One wonders why our politicians and religious ‘gurus’ cannot take some lesson from these people. It would have helped the country to develop and prosper.
