Rigging, booth capturing, bombing marks final-phase of polls in Bengal

Bangla Hunt,Pallab Ghosh: Massive rigging, threatening voters, booth capturing and bombing taking place at various places in West Bengal. This has been the picture in the state since early morning on the 7th and final phase of Polls. Many voters are surprised to see their votes have been casted and they were fool to wait for their turn.

Rigging has been alleged taking place at booth no. 43,44,45,49 in Diamond Harbour, 24 Pgs(S) which happens to the constituency of MamataBanerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee. Bombing at Mathurapur which happens to be the constituency of Trinamool veteran Chowdhury Mohan Jatwa. Similar incedents are taking place at Jadavpur, Beleghata, Dum Dum among others.

At many places, polling has been stopped or did not even start due to EVM mallfuctioning in Booths No.192,196,307,302,275,298,297,291,293,230,111,142 in Kolkata. There are instances where presiding officers are threatened not to go to booth.

Elections unlike other states in India is a farce in West Bengal, not today but since ages. We had seen the Left Party in the past not only rigged elections physically by booth capturing in the rural areas but even had locked the residents residing in apartments on poll day in the heart of Kolkata.

Trinamool which came on the assurance of “Bodla noi bodol chai” (don’t want revenge but change) had exposed it’s true shades during the Panchayat Polls when Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee had entered into verbal altercations with state election commissioner Meera Pandey taking many initiatives to implement means to check poll malfunctions. Also we saw how Panchayat Minister had said, both bikers gang and court order banning the gang will stay in force, mocking the court order.

Not a single poll has gone reported without the news of poll violence. Political parties in general and ruling Trinamool as alleged by locals have tried to create unrest and spread terror by threatening voters especially women not to vote for BJP or any other parties. Women had been threatened not to venture out on polling day.

The sad story is reluctant attitude of Election Commission (EC). Neither EC nor Central Forces are taking any action. They are standing as mute spectators.

This is a mockery of elections and a big insult to voters who had come out to vote, waiting since hours in this scorching heat. Finally! We can say nothing has changed in Bengal…
