Bangla Hunt/ Pallab Ghosh: The Federal Court in the United States of America in a landmark judgment has instructed President Donald Trump not to block any user on his Twitter handle. The ruling said that blocking users violates their first amendment rights to participate in a “public forum”.
The Federal Court was hearing to a case that has been brought by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, representing seven plaintiffs. They allege that Trump had blocked them on his Twitter handle @realDonaldTrump. The Federal Court has issued declaratory relief, which states the point of law, as opposed to an injunction that would seek to bar the president from blocking his critics.
This has come as a victory for all those who felt harassed and insulted after they were blocked by the President for being critical about his working and policy.
