Bangla Hunt,Pallab Ghosh: A large ‘jattha’ (group) of Sikh pilgrims attended the opening of one of the most revered Sikh pilgrimage sites, Shri Hemkund Sahibji, that opened after remainjng closed for six-months due to winters. The Gurudwara which is situated at an altitude of over 4,632 meters (15,197) feet from the sea level. The shrine is located in the Chamoli district of Uttrakhand. The Gurudwara is situated beside a lake.
On Friday, nearly eight thousand pilgrims as a part of the first batch began their journey to the Shri Hemkund Sahibji Gurudwara from Govind Ghat Gurudwara as per annual ritual. This year the ‘jattha’ was flagged off by Commissioner of Garhwal BVRC Purushottam.
As per the Sikh religion, it is believed that the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singhji Maharaj had perfomed meditation at the place where the shrine exists.
Adequate security measures have been taken so that pilgrims can offers prayers safely.
